Old people are so funny
While shopping with Zoe today, she started making peeps and squeaks. And elderly woman said, "Oh, I know that sound. That's a new one." I acknowledged her and adjusted Zoe's carrier in the cart. As we passed by, the woman craned for a look and said, "Oh, that's not a real baby." Huh? I said, "Oh, she's real. Trust me." And kept walking, 'cause really, what the hell.

Snippets of Newborn Rearing
- If you want to see some very focused, wide eyeballs, have your toddler come upon you pumping. Said toddler may later say she's so proud of you making more milk.
- TMI Alert: Postpartum recovery involved feminine sanitary products. When seen putting these in your underwear, your toddler may say, "Sorry you hurt your underpants." Not a time to try to explain, just say 'thanks' while stifling your giggle.
- You'll be certain your newborn's nasal passages drain into her mouth when she is nursing and milk is running out of her nostril, dripping all over you. Also when spit-up becomes nose-up.

Mensa may not be knocking
Brandon: What's this?
Amelia: A frog.
B: That's right. What color is it?
A: Pink.
B: His tongue is pink, but what color is the frog?
A: Blue.
B: Yeah, his eyes are blue, but what color is the frog?
A: Sock!

Tumbling = righteousness
At gymnastics the other day, this was going on in another group of kids: The teacher was giving instructions to the group and one boy was off playing with some toy swords (not sure where those came from), and being distracting. The teacher told the rest of the class to ignore him as he would lead them down the path to unrighteousness. I had no idea it was so easy!

At Lowe's
I'm walking toward the bathroom, some guy is walking out. He turns the other way then looks back at me triple-take-style. He then stares at my belly and makes a face. Naturally, I make a face back. He says, "Congratulations!" Um, thanks.

Convo
"Where's Papa?"
"At a party."
"Oh, okay, I go party, too."
"No, you have to go home and go to sleep."
"Why?"
"Because kids have to sleep more than mamas and papas. Because you're growing everyday."
"Huh?"
"You're growing everyday, doing new stuff and learning new things. So you need more sleep to be ready."
"Ohhh, that's great!"

Twittering along
I've started to twitter. Don't worry, it's not a medical condition. It's yet another way to stay connected 'cause we're sadly lacking means of that. ;) It's an easy way to throw short updates out to the internets and you can see what I'm saying just over to the right. I'm nothing if not fascinating.

20 Weeks (less a day)
We're at the halfway point. Tomorrow I get up at the crack of dawn and drive 90 miles to a specialist for my old-mommy checkup. I'm so lucky!

Shul
Monday was Amelia's first day of "shul." No, she's not learning Yiddish, but that is her current pronunciation. Class is MWF, from 8:30 to 11:30am. She's doing very well, according to her teachers: follows directions, does her work, plays with others (she knows two of her classmates already) is sweet. The problem comes when she's asked if she needs a diaper change. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! And then come the tears. Monday it happened about ten minutes before the end of class so I didn't get a call. Today it happened about two hours in. The poor kid is so upset at the notion that she doesn't get over it and continues to cry. One teacher says AC has a strong sense of boundaries. I said, "We don't, so I don't know where she learned it." So, the current plan is I will change her in the classroom first thing on Friday, maybe even see if she'll let a teacher do it with me there. And then, there is to be no diaper talk the rest of the morning. Seriously. These are precious hours to Mama.
